Third 👻 Story [Video/Action for Violet]

[VIDEO / 3/12]

[At a little desk in a Violet City hotel, Ashley sits in front of a lot of...papers. Many papers, a notebook? Whatever's written on them can't be distinguished from the angle, but oh goodness, it looks like there sure is a lot of it! She looks a lot more put-together than the last time she was on video on the network, that's for sure. Probably helps that there's a Zubat poking up behind her shoulder, like he's holding on with his wings from behind, and it's a surprisingly peaceful image? Really, the girl who'd arrived here in hysterics is completely zen with giving a no-eyed bat a piggyback, something works well in this world.]

Hi. [...you don't have to-] I've, um, more or less... I've started training a lot, for my first gym battle, and it occurred to me that there are some Pokémon here that've got unconventional evolution styles. Since no one's an expert on everything and I'd have no idea where to start looking for one, I wanted to put this out to poll. I don't want to mess up and make it so they can't evolve right, especially since- Arwen, c'mere, don't do that-

[She bends down, dips off-screen (with a skitter from her Zubat) and then pops back up, with an excited little Eevee in her grasp, one who leans forward and sniffs at the camera.] Okay, sure, girl. Since I've heard Eevee have a lot of forms.

[A small Vee! as Ashley pulls the girl away. The view moves from Eevee-nose to one of her notes, one that appears to be a small...not-good doodle of an Eevee, with multiple arrows. ...It honestly looks like one for each type, um. Only one has a doodle at the end, which is mostly just a not-good Eevee with ribbons for its ears: Ashley's rendition of a Sylveon, with a little scribble of + puffs??.] I had a conversation with someone on how to get a Sylveon, but I'm not sure on the specifics- or how many forms Eevee has, or what causes them to evolve into each of them!

[Her finger rubs against the PokéGear's lens for a brief moment, leaving a faint print as she sets it back hastily so it's pointed back at her face. Her Eevee has since grown bored and hopped off, it appears.]

I don't want to...to train her without knowing what strategies to use. At least for evolution. And then I realized I don't know anything about the rest of mine either.

[What a god awful long preamble, Ash, do you ever shut up, God-
Looking several shades of awkward now that she's been talking for...awhile, she clears her throat and shifts her shoulders, meaning her Zubat almost falls off.]

S-so! Besides Eevee's...everything. I made up a list of my Pokémon, and, if any of them have special conditions or something besides simple training to help them evolve to their next form!

[And now the view's back to her notes, but a different set- it is indeed her roster, just a list of names; Litwick, Espurr, Happiny, Stantler, Zubat and so on. Not a very long list of species, thankfully.] I already know about Espurr's unique case, but for the rest I'm clueless, and the handbook didn't mention hardly anything about evolution.

Any information or just tips for evolution training would be very appreciated. Thanks for your time!


[ACTION FOR VIOLET / FRONTDATED TO 3/13]

[Training. Holy heck has this girl been training a lot. Towards the start of the day, you'll catch her with her Pokémon (Litwick, Luxio, Espurr, Zubat, Munna, and a very shy Snorunt) out of their balls, either on her way to or at Sprout Tower. ...Which is a fun place to be. Isn't it. All those freaking ghosts, and-

Naw, she's calm, she's cool. Feel free to run into her during this point, where she's likely training her Luxio or her shaking Snorunt, or maybe her Zubat.

...There is one point in the day, however.

Toward the end, when most of her Pokémon are all in their balls, save for her Zubat who's piggybacking on her shoulders.

Where this horrible shriek just echoes throughout the Tower, and holy crap she sure can run, can't she, down from the second floor and out the damn door, what the heck is she even running from-

Whatever it is, she's very distressed! Naturally. Because she wouldn't be Ashley if she wasn't.]

That makes sense. I didn't exactly have a choice, since that's the one I started with. ...Still don't get that joke, but, it hasn't been all bad, honestly.

[ It became easier once she gave it Flamethrower, that's for sure. ]

If they do, well, I suppose I'd appreciate it. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't curious to see what Chansey is like.

Chansey... I've heard some good things about them. [Making people happy... She hopes it'll be true.]

But, you wouldn't be in my debt at all! It'd just be a favor.

Have you, now? I'm certainly curious myself...but I hardly know what they look like, so, it'll be interesting.

I refuse to let a favor go by without you getting a favor in turn, though. I'm not really used to this whole "getting help from others" thing, but, I try not to make a habit of it.

They're... Well, they're taller. And they look like they can take a punch.

If you really insist, then... Oh, there has to be something, maybe a...set of Poképuffs, since it seems I'll need a whole bunch of them?

I was leaning towards Jolteon, myself. But puffs, then. Got it.

[A nod...but then she remembers it's on audio.]

I just, well, they look so cute. And apparently they're really strong too? A Jolteon sounds pretty cool, though. Like a lightning-fast zap attack.

[ Jesus Christ you dork....... ]

Well, it's mostly because from a sheer statistical standpoint, Jolteon is probably the most solid. Think of it this way: Vaporeon is weak to grass and electricity. Flareon's weak to rocks, ground, and water. Espeon's weak to bugs, dark types, and ghosts, too. And Umbreon is also weak to bugs, plus fighting-types and fairies.

Jolteon is weak to ground-types. That's it. And if someone does use a ground-type on me, well, I can just switch to whatever ferocious Pokemon that Magikarp apparently evolves into. I imagine they'd be pretty good checks for each other.

Is that so? [Color her very impressed.] I haven't really done a whole lot of type match-up, at least beyond the ones I have. There's just so much and... Well, now that I'm really buckling down I guess can spend more time beyond what Falkner's have.

What's that about Magikarp, though? I've seen those things and they're kinda...flop.

Easier to look at than most of those big charts I see floating around. As for Magikarp, well, I needed a fish. Right now, I'd say it's not worth it, because all it does is Splash around until level 15. Then it learns Tackle.

In other words, it's garbage. But I want to see the payoff.

You're going after Falkner, you said? From what I can see, he's big on birds. But thankfully, Flying has a couple of common weaknesses. I've seen these electric sheep not too far from Violet to the south, but you can also get one of those rocks that flex like they're on their way back from Arm Day in the cave to the east...

He is! I got some tips from someone here, his name's Tobias? A big bird expert. I'm raising a Luxio and... Well, maybe a Snorunt? She's still really young, and shy, but she doesn't seem to mind fighting...

Hm...I've never heard of either of those Pokemon. I assume Snorunt is an ice type...

Luxio's the evolved form of Shinx. Have you seen them? They're little electric lion cubs. A Snorunt... Can I turn the video on? I can show you her.

Ahh, I've seen Shinx before. ...And go right ahead. Honestly, I just use the audio as a force of habit...

[A bit of shuffling, and then video blinks on, where Ashley's holding a Snorunt, one who happens to be covering her eyes with her little arms.]

Oh, huh. Cuter than I expected, admittedly...

[ Might as well return the favor. Asuka's sitting against the outside of a cave wall herself, Happiny not too far away, resting at her feet..she's been on the lookout for a Stantler for a while, but at this time of night, it might be a bit more tricky. ]

It might be shy, but I bet it'll be pretty strong. Even though it's probably a bit frail.

[A small Runt? as she shivers, suddenly nuzzling more into Ashley's stomach- and Ashley responds by shivering right back, what a chilly little thing.]

Oh, she holds her own. She's gonna be a powerhouse when she grows up. If she wants to be. Right? [Sno... Pat pat.]

That so? I wonder what those evolve into...I imagine them being kind of like glass cannons.

Bet the eyepatch probably doesn't make the poor thing feel any less comfortable, but, I'm content seeing it now. Wish I had a little more to show you myself, but, not much to see in these damn ruins...they're pretty barren, even though for some reason, it seems like a breeding ground for alphabet soup.

Ohhh, those letters! Someone showed me them that is so bizarre, right? Like. Wow! I kind of want to check it out myself...

Some of them spell out words in English, too. Mine's a bit rusty, but...I can get the gist of a bunch of it. "Our clan engraved words in this place..."

Least it's not kanji. Go right ahead, though. Can't say I'm not curious.

Well, all I can say is at least it's English to begin with. Can't really speak anything else. But- "our clan?" Like, an ancient race of humans or an ancient race of Pokémon...? Have you found any kind of answers?

I'd prefer German myself, but, I know enough English to get me by. That's all this says, though. If there's an answer, I don't think I'll be able to find it here.
