Third 👻 Story [Video/Action for Violet]

[VIDEO / 3/12]

[At a little desk in a Violet City hotel, Ashley sits in front of a lot of...papers. Many papers, a notebook? Whatever's written on them can't be distinguished from the angle, but oh goodness, it looks like there sure is a lot of it! She looks a lot more put-together than the last time she was on video on the network, that's for sure. Probably helps that there's a Zubat poking up behind her shoulder, like he's holding on with his wings from behind, and it's a surprisingly peaceful image? Really, the girl who'd arrived here in hysterics is completely zen with giving a no-eyed bat a piggyback, something works well in this world.]

Hi. [...you don't have to-] I've, um, more or less... I've started training a lot, for my first gym battle, and it occurred to me that there are some Pokémon here that've got unconventional evolution styles. Since no one's an expert on everything and I'd have no idea where to start looking for one, I wanted to put this out to poll. I don't want to mess up and make it so they can't evolve right, especially since- Arwen, c'mere, don't do that-

[She bends down, dips off-screen (with a skitter from her Zubat) and then pops back up, with an excited little Eevee in her grasp, one who leans forward and sniffs at the camera.] Okay, sure, girl. Since I've heard Eevee have a lot of forms.

[A small Vee! as Ashley pulls the girl away. The view moves from Eevee-nose to one of her notes, one that appears to be a small...not-good doodle of an Eevee, with multiple arrows. ...It honestly looks like one for each type, um. Only one has a doodle at the end, which is mostly just a not-good Eevee with ribbons for its ears: Ashley's rendition of a Sylveon, with a little scribble of + puffs??.] I had a conversation with someone on how to get a Sylveon, but I'm not sure on the specifics- or how many forms Eevee has, or what causes them to evolve into each of them!

[Her finger rubs against the PokéGear's lens for a brief moment, leaving a faint print as she sets it back hastily so it's pointed back at her face. Her Eevee has since grown bored and hopped off, it appears.]

I don't want to...to train her without knowing what strategies to use. At least for evolution. And then I realized I don't know anything about the rest of mine either.

[What a god awful long preamble, Ash, do you ever shut up, God-
Looking several shades of awkward now that she's been talking for...awhile, she clears her throat and shifts her shoulders, meaning her Zubat almost falls off.]

S-so! Besides Eevee's...everything. I made up a list of my Pokémon, and, if any of them have special conditions or something besides simple training to help them evolve to their next form!

[And now the view's back to her notes, but a different set- it is indeed her roster, just a list of names; Litwick, Espurr, Happiny, Stantler, Zubat and so on. Not a very long list of species, thankfully.] I already know about Espurr's unique case, but for the rest I'm clueless, and the handbook didn't mention hardly anything about evolution.

Any information or just tips for evolution training would be very appreciated. Thanks for your time!

[ACTION FOR VIOLET / FRONTDATED TO 3/13]

[Training. Holy heck has this girl been training a lot. Towards the start of the day, you'll catch her with her Pokémon (Litwick, Luxio, Espurr, Zubat, Munna, and a very shy Snorunt) out of their balls, either on her way to or at Sprout Tower. ...Which is a fun place to be. Isn't it. All those freaking ghosts, and-

Naw, she's calm, she's cool. Feel free to run into her during this point, where she's likely training her Luxio or her shaking Snorunt, or maybe her Zubat.

...There is one point in the day, however.

Toward the end, when most of her Pokémon are all in their balls, save for her Zubat who's piggybacking on her shoulders.

Where this horrible shriek just echoes throughout the Tower, and holy crap she sure can run, can't she, down from the second floor and out the damn door, what the heck is she even running from-

Whatever it is, she's very distressed! Naturally. Because she wouldn't be Ashley if she wasn't.]

Anyway, uh. You said something about a book club?

I did! A girl named, um, Maka, she runs it. There aren't too many members, but they're trying to organize a meeting. At least something to discuss. I haven't even met anyone in person- but Dave told me about it, soon as I mentioned I really love to read?

Yeah, I can see it. How many members are there? And what kind of books do you read?

[Probably not all romance, so he's not sure he'll be interested, but since he hadn't spent nearly as much time with Earth literature as with Earth films, maybe this could be a good way to spend his time? Who knows.]

Ohhh boy, haha, here's the... [She looks sheepish.] Remember how I said they're still trying to set things up? I haven't actually been to a meeting yet.

[... Okay, that's kind of funny.]

Then explain to me how they work? We didn't really have book clubs on Alternia, just forums and shit. Maybe adults had them, I don't know.

You don't? Huh. No, that makes sense, with the whole...separation, more rural thing. Basically, everyone's given the same book to read, and at the next meeting, they all come together and discuss it. Either you break it into sections and do it that way or just assign everything- whatever you want.

In the end, the people in the club just talk about what they liked, what they didn't, and then choose a book for next time, probably based off the results of this one. A lot of the time, it's people sharing their favorites, but since we're here in knock-off land, I imagine most everything will be half-new, half-not.

... So everyone picks a book, reads it, and talks about it?

[Oh my god, that sounds like so much fun. Again, assuming the books are ones he'd enjoy. It would be fun with movies, too, come to think of it, except with movies they could probably all watch the movie right then and there and discuss it during slow moments and then again once it was over. Holy fuck, why didn't Alternia have any of this.]

Can you tell me what this club is like after you meet up? Whenever that happens.

[She looks so happy just about the thought of it.]

Did I ever ask you what your favorite genre is? For books or movies.

[That had to have come up at some point. Uh. Did it? Shit.]

Oh! Fantasy, romance, or mystery. Just- not scary mystery, you know? Fantasy's my absolute favorite, but- well, I can read a lot for a creative style.

So then... crime-solving mystery? [He smiles minutely.] You'd like Terezi; she's all about that.

[As for fantasy... yeah no, let's not bring up Eridan. There's a safer option anyway.]

And Rose likes fantasy, too. Dave probably told you, right?

Mmhm! It's mostly the puzzles and trying to figure out the whodunit that I'm really interested in, for mystery.

[She's an embarrassment.]

But fantasy, that's my everything. Especially if the world-building's well-done and nuanced! It sounds like I'd get along with Rose, from what I've been told so far.

[He has friends who LARP, Ashley's fine. Also who lick chalk and hang dragon plushies and god he misses Terezi, what the hell.]

Huh. I wasn't really that into it, but you make it sound interesting. Do you have any recommendations?

[Bonus points if romance. Hell, romance required. Does he need to say this is or it already implied? It's probably implied.]

Rose is kind of prickly [SAID KARKAT] but yeah, you'd probably like her. We didn't talk much.

[Surprise, Ashley loves D&D, someone introduce her to LARP and- ...well she'll probably be all stage fright but you know.]

Oh, well, they definitely don't have them here, but I love The Lord of the Rings! It's my favorite series... but besides that, oh, The Tales of Earthsea, and anything by Neil Gaiman. And- ...the authors are probably all different here. Whoops.

[Oh my god. Okay, Ashley needs to meet the other not crazy/homicidal trolls ASAP.]

I can always look for their Pokéquivalents. Some of them aren't that bad, actually. Or maybe I'm just fucking desperate, it was impossible to get new shit on the meteor.

I can only imagine... How about I make a bit list for you? My favorite authors, their books, and you can hunt for the equivalents, along with list out characters so you know what their real names are.

I mean, yeah, okay. [A sudden wince.] I'd do the same for you for romance novels, but you probably know more human ones than I do anyway.

Don't worry, I mostly only seek out fantasy and sometimes mystery. If I stumble upon a good romance novel I'll read it, but it's most fun for me when it's all a big mishmash of genre. Romantic subplots in big epics, all that.

So there'll be a lot of those in the list?

[Yes, he sounds hopeful. Boy loves his romance.]

Ohh, of course! My favorite one, the Lord of the Rings trilogy- it's got this great love story between a former immortal elf and a human, and there's all this history in the side-stories- Arwen is so cool, I named my Eevee after her. But she gets to do better things in the movies, if I can ever find them...

The Lord of the—oh, I remember that one. Yeah, Dave had a copy. [lol continuity] I think he's been looking for the movies and shit, too. We can let you know when we find them? And Arwen's great, but I—
