Third 👻 Story [Video/Action for Violet]

[VIDEO / 3/12]

[At a little desk in a Violet City hotel, Ashley sits in front of a lot of...papers. Many papers, a notebook? Whatever's written on them can't be distinguished from the angle, but oh goodness, it looks like there sure is a lot of it! She looks a lot more put-together than the last time she was on video on the network, that's for sure. Probably helps that there's a Zubat poking up behind her shoulder, like he's holding on with his wings from behind, and it's a surprisingly peaceful image? Really, the girl who'd arrived here in hysterics is completely zen with giving a no-eyed bat a piggyback, something works well in this world.]

Hi. [...you don't have to-] I've, um, more or less... I've started training a lot, for my first gym battle, and it occurred to me that there are some Pokémon here that've got unconventional evolution styles. Since no one's an expert on everything and I'd have no idea where to start looking for one, I wanted to put this out to poll. I don't want to mess up and make it so they can't evolve right, especially since- Arwen, c'mere, don't do that-

[She bends down, dips off-screen (with a skitter from her Zubat) and then pops back up, with an excited little Eevee in her grasp, one who leans forward and sniffs at the camera.] Okay, sure, girl. Since I've heard Eevee have a lot of forms.

[A small Vee! as Ashley pulls the girl away. The view moves from Eevee-nose to one of her notes, one that appears to be a small...not-good doodle of an Eevee, with multiple arrows. ...It honestly looks like one for each type, um. Only one has a doodle at the end, which is mostly just a not-good Eevee with ribbons for its ears: Ashley's rendition of a Sylveon, with a little scribble of + puffs??.] I had a conversation with someone on how to get a Sylveon, but I'm not sure on the specifics- or how many forms Eevee has, or what causes them to evolve into each of them!

[Her finger rubs against the PokéGear's lens for a brief moment, leaving a faint print as she sets it back hastily so it's pointed back at her face. Her Eevee has since grown bored and hopped off, it appears.]

I don't want to...to train her without knowing what strategies to use. At least for evolution. And then I realized I don't know anything about the rest of mine either.

[What a god awful long preamble, Ash, do you ever shut up, God-
Looking several shades of awkward now that she's been talking for...awhile, she clears her throat and shifts her shoulders, meaning her Zubat almost falls off.]

S-so! Besides Eevee's...everything. I made up a list of my Pokémon, and, if any of them have special conditions or something besides simple training to help them evolve to their next form!

[And now the view's back to her notes, but a different set- it is indeed her roster, just a list of names; Litwick, Espurr, Happiny, Stantler, Zubat and so on. Not a very long list of species, thankfully.] I already know about Espurr's unique case, but for the rest I'm clueless, and the handbook didn't mention hardly anything about evolution.

Any information or just tips for evolution training would be very appreciated. Thanks for your time!

[ACTION FOR VIOLET / FRONTDATED TO 3/13]

[Training. Holy heck has this girl been training a lot. Towards the start of the day, you'll catch her with her Pokémon (Litwick, Luxio, Espurr, Zubat, Munna, and a very shy Snorunt) out of their balls, either on her way to or at Sprout Tower. ...Which is a fun place to be. Isn't it. All those freaking ghosts, and-

Naw, she's calm, she's cool. Feel free to run into her during this point, where she's likely training her Luxio or her shaking Snorunt, or maybe her Zubat.

...There is one point in the day, however.

Toward the end, when most of her Pokémon are all in their balls, save for her Zubat who's piggybacking on her shoulders.

Where this horrible shriek just echoes throughout the Tower, and holy crap she sure can run, can't she, down from the second floor and out the damn door, what the heck is she even running from-

Whatever it is, she's very distressed! Naturally. Because she wouldn't be Ashley if she wasn't.]

Oh, it's complicated, if you want to get it in print. You need an agent, usually, and a company that'll agree to put your work out there. They don't usually unless they know there's a market for it- but someone here told me as long as they aren't filled with Poképuns, someone will want to read them.

[He frowns thoughtfully at her answer, but although now would usually be the point where he drew some contrast between human and troll culture, he doesn't have the faintest goddamn clue how what Ashley just told him is any different from all that shit. If it is at all. Uhhh, fuck. Okay, forget that, move on.]

Do you have an agent? [Better yet—] What is an agent?

[A small laugh.] That's the person who's supposed to communicate with the publishers and work on contracts and how much I get paid, and advertising- but since I do not have one, I guess I'll have to do that shit myself.

... That sounds fucking complicated. Are you sure you can handle that? I mean, you're smart, but that's a lot of work on top of writing the damn story to begin with. Would one of the natives be up for the job or do they only accept being agents for shit with Poképuns?

[She gently shrugs.] Maybe? That would require a lot of networking... Honestly I was just...gonna take it to Saffron and be extremely charismatic. It also means I gotta work my ass off writing it, since I- well, I just have to keep trying until I get lucky.

[... Fucking humans, seriously.]

Do you, uh. Have anyone helping you proofread?

I, um, I do, actually. One of the other members of the book club, Ken. He's familiar with horror, so I thought he'd be the best person to ask.

But, I could always use more than one set of eyes.

[He actually looks a little relieved, but possibly not for the reasons Ashley is thinking.]

Is Ken a human? He'll probably have a better of what you all find scary anyway, then, even if he wasn't familiar with horror.

[Y e a h, he's assuming the content wouldn't bother him. Would Ashley like to hear about how the undead are an actual thing on Alternia. Would she.]

But, uh. It'd be interesting to see what you were writing.

[She nods! ...How little she knows.]

He's a human, mmhm. It'll be a good perspective for me.

[Please do not tell Ashley about the horrors of Alternia. At least not yet.]

[Ashley purses her lips. Her brows furrow.]

Anyway, uh. You said something about a book club?

I did! A girl named, um, Maka, she runs it. There aren't too many members, but they're trying to organize a meeting. At least something to discuss. I haven't even met anyone in person- but Dave told me about it, soon as I mentioned I really love to read?

Yeah, I can see it. How many members are there? And what kind of books do you read?

[Probably not all romance, so he's not sure he'll be interested, but since he hadn't spent nearly as much time with Earth literature as with Earth films, maybe this could be a good way to spend his time? Who knows.]

Ohhh boy, haha, here's the... [She looks sheepish.] Remember how I said they're still trying to set things up? I haven't actually been to a meeting yet.

Then explain to me how they work? We didn't really have book clubs on Alternia, just forums and shit. Maybe adults had them, I don't know.

You don't? Huh. No, that makes sense, with the whole...separation, more rural thing. Basically, everyone's given the same book to read, and at the next meeting, they all come together and discuss it. Either you break it into sections and do it that way or just assign everything- whatever you want.

In the end, the people in the club just talk about what they liked, what they didn't, and then choose a book for next time, probably based off the results of this one. A lot of the time, it's people sharing their favorites, but since we're here in knock-off land, I imagine most everything will be half-new, half-not.

... So everyone picks a book, reads it, and talks about it?

[Oh my god, that sounds like so much fun. Again, assuming the books are ones he'd enjoy. It would be fun with movies, too, come to think of it, except with movies they could probably all watch the movie right then and there and discuss it during slow moments and then again once it was over. Holy fuck, why didn't Alternia have any of this.]

Can you tell me what this club is like after you meet up? Whenever that happens.

[She looks so happy just about the thought of it.]

Oh! Fantasy, romance, or mystery. Just- not scary mystery, you know? Fantasy's my absolute favorite, but- well, I can read a lot for a creative style.
